Event Notes

  • A NADD Registration Number is required to enter, purchase here for $35.00.
  • Splashes include up to three minutes on the dock for one optional practice jump and two judged jumps. You must inform the judge prior to your jump if you want it to be considered a "practice jump".
  • This event is an Open Splash event. This is done at Portable Dock trials and other shows that have timing conflicts with other dog events. The time for each splash for the day will be set such as 9am for example for all the splashes. You have between the posted start time and end time (either before AR starts or the end of the last day, usually 3pm) to complete your splashes for the day. When you check in you will be handed “Splash Cards” for each splash that you pay for. When you are ready to jump during the day, hand a splash card to the wrangler to get put into the running order. It is the handler's responsibility to be sure to be present it before their turn to jump. Please be aware that at many events, the running order board fills very quickly and early in the day.
  • Please Note: You must pay for all pre registered splashes at time of check-in. Any splashes not paid for will be put back into the event's on-site registration availability list and result in a no-show. If you are registering multiple dogs there will be a no-show for each dog. You are responsible for all pre-registered splashes.
  • Each distance jumping Splash allows 2 judged jumps, back to back. The longest jump of them will be your Qualifying Score.
  • You can earn a Diving Dog Title at this event. You must have five Qualifying Scores within a Division. NADD titles are recognized by the AKC and CKC through their recognition programs. View their applications here (AKC) and here (CKC).
  • Please read the official NADD Rules before you attend the Trial.

NADD Regionals Qualifier

This is a qualifier event for the NADD Diving Dog Regionals.
  • In order to qualify for Distance Jump, each dog must have a minimum of three DJ splashes completed at this event. We then take the average of the top three jumps from the event for each dog. Only the top 3 dogs in each division will receive an automatic Distance Jump invite to the Regionals.
  • Jumps in all the Splashes will count towards your NADD/AKC titles.
  • The Air Retrieve and Hydro Dash qualifier will be based on the highest score achieved at the event. In both Open & Lap, the Top 3 Finishers for each division will earn invites.

Try-its at this event

  • Try-its will be allowed as space permits and during Splashes if no competitors are waiting to jump. Try-its cost $10.00.

Other Notes

Welcome to our holiday themed Regional qualifier!

Feel free to bring EZ-up or other tents, chairs, fans (Dani has a Ryobi rapid charger at admin), misters, aluminets, cooling pads/vests for your dogs, and anything else that you need to spend the day(s) with us and your fellow competitors. 2 port-a-potties will be onsite; if the TP is running low please alert admin.

Smoking and vaping are prohibited within the pool yard AKA "Dog Town" and in the port-a-potties.

*Remember to bring your own water bowls/cups for your pups as well as towels!

*Water, Gatorade, NA drinks, snacks for people and pups will be available; cash, PayPal (f&f to Dani), Venmo (f&f to Dani) only, NO CARDS.

*Dani always has sunscreen, bug spray, and poop bags available on the admin table.

Facility Rules

~All dogs must be leashed on a regular 4' lead, not a flexi/extendable lead, when on the premises with the exception of when they are on the  dock.

~Please refrain from trying to pet daycare dogs (yes, some of them are pretty stinking adorable) or letting  your dogs rush or linger at the daycare fence.

~Please pick up after your dogs and use the correct disposal bins. If you don't follow this rule you will be asked to leave and NO refund will be given.

~Sportsmanlike conduct is to be adhered to at all times. No cheating of any sort will be tolerated. If you are found to be cheating, this includes sandbagging, by judges or admin an incident report will be written and you will be excused from the trial with no refund.

~If you have any questions or concerns while at the event please don't hesitate to approach Bill (owner, judge), Dani (event secretary/chair, admin, senior judge), or Joelle (admin 2.0) to bring it to our attention. We want to address issues in real time to solve it during the event. There is no way to correct something if brought to our, or NADD's, attention after the event has closed.

~The most important rule is to have fun with your dog!

Parking

When you arrive please remember that Shipps Corner is also a doggie daycare, grooming facility, and boarding facility so DRIVE SLOWLY AND PAY ATTENTION while onsite and park in the NADD approved parking! If you have a SUV or truck please park in the wooded lot, if you do not have an SUV or truck you can park in the approved part of the parking lot or on the grass. ALL 4 WHEELS MUST BE ON THE GRASS. Please let Dani know if you need a handicap spot so we can save you one; handicap tags/plates required (text 757-955-3519).

NO PARKING OR STANDING IN THE FIRE LANE AS EMERGENCY VEHICLES MUST BE ABLE TO DRIVE THROUGH.

Check In

~Admin & board open at 0800.

~Once parked, please come to the admin tent to check in. After your positive greeting to Dani or Joelle, and a smile: please state your dog's name(s), whether you are preregistered/registering onsite or a combination, and sign the waiver; anyone going on the dock must sign a waiver prior to walking up the ramp.

You will be given a total for ALL of your jumps and then will pay with cash, check made out to Shipps Corner (valid DL and phone # required), or credit card. All jumps must be paid for at check in. Removing/not paying for preregistered splashes will result in a No Show. We are taking onsite registration where available.

You will receive a splash card for each of your distance jumps. AR & HD do not get splash cards.

Running Order

~Head to the board and let the board boss know when and how'd you like to jump (pick your times and your spacing between jumps/dogs). Reminder, as a courtesy to your peers please limit 2 splashes per dog per hour.

~Once on the board please keep an eye and ear out for your turn as it can always shift earlier or later than you scheduled (we tend to run ahead of schedule).

~Boards will fill up fast. If you arrive to find them full in the morning, don't panic, we can usually work you in if you can work with us. Please be respectful of the board boss and ask nicely; you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

~Once we start splashes in the morning we do not stop. That means we could be running early (sometimes as much as 45 minutes ahead of schedule) so please check back frequently to make sure you know where we are in the run order.

~We line up 3-5 dogs at a time to get them ready for their turn. *Please do not crowd dogs together, maintain 8' of distance between dogs unless they are from the same household.*

~Please be ready when your dog's name is called. If you miss your turn we will get you in within the next 5 dogs.

*Some dogs need more space than others and can wait outside of the dog yard but it is your responsibility to let us know.

PLEASE DO NOT WRITE OR ERASE ANYTHING ON THE BOARD. WE APPRECIATE YOUR WILLINGNESS TO HELP BUT ASK DANI OR JOELLE FIRST!

Ribbons

~Blue qualifying ribbons will be available after admin enters the judged jump cards. You can pick them up in the 3 drawer bin on the admin table. They will be in alphabetical order and may be paper clipped together. Please keep the ribbons in alphabetical order and leave the paperclips.

~If you earn a personal best, we have a ribbon for that! (Limit 1 per event)

Titles

~If you believe that your dog has earned a title and you did not hear their name and title announced over the PA system, please check with admin.

Qualifier Rules Explained

~In order to qualify for Distance Jump, each dog must have a minimum of 3 DJ splashes completed at this event. We then take the average of the top 3 jumps from the event for each dog. (Yes, we are selling onsite splashes to help you get the best from your dog; maximum of 4 DJ splashes per day.) Only the top 3 dogs in each division will receive an automatic Distance Jump invite to the Regionals.

~Jumps in all of the splashes will count toward your NADD/AKC titles.

~The Air Retrieve qualifier will be based on the highest score achieved at the event. In both Open and Lap, the top 3 finishers for each division will earn invites.

~The Hydro Dash qualifier will be based on the fastest score achieved at the event. In both Open and Lap, the top 3 finishers for each division will earn invites.

Try-its At This Event

~Try-its will be allowed as space permits if no competitors are waiting to jump.

~As this is a qualifier and competitors take precedence, limited half try-its will be available for $5 and will be held at the end of each hour as well as from 0800-0830; total of 4 per hour. Limit 1 per morning or afternoon per dog unless there is space in a different hour and is within 30 minutes from the allotted try-it slots.

 Food

~GrubHub, DoorDash, UberEats, and many chain restaurants will deliver to Shipps. The address is 1515 Drakesmile Rd. Please instruct them to meet you at the gate to the pool. If delivery drivers come to admin and we have to call you over the PA system you will need to share with a handling fee. ;)
