Event Notes
North America Diving Dogs (NADD) is thrilled to announce the details for the upcoming Jump for a Million qualifying events coming in 2025!
We’ve made some exciting changes and updates to ensure this is the most competitive and fair event yet! We are excited to showcase dogs of all shapes, sizes and abilities.
Jump for a Million Scoring Update: Introducing the Handicap System!
In an effort to level the playing field for all competitors, (i.e lap dog being competitive with open dogs) we've introduced a new handicap scoring system. This system will give all dogs, regardless of their jump height, an equal chance to compete for the grand prize.
Here’s how it works:
-
Top Jumper’s Average: The dog with the highest season average at the event will serve as the baseline for scoring.
-
Handicap Adjustments: All other dogs' scores will be adjusted relative to the top jumper’s season average. (difference between averages)
Scoring Example:
-
Dog #1: (dog with the longest season average at the event) Has a season average of 30 feet and an event score of 31 feet. Because they started the event with the longest season average their their final score remains 31 feet.
-
Dog #2: Has a season average of 25 feet and an event score of 27' 3". With a 5-foot handicap adjustment, Dog #2’s final score would be 32' 3" (27' 3" + 5 feet adjustment).
-
Dog #3: Has a season average of 15 feet and an event score of 17' 6". With a 15-foot handicap adjustment, Dog #3’s final score would be 32' 6" (17' 6" + 15 feet adjustment).
Please note: We will be using the full feet and inches from each dog’s season averages when calculating scores. The examples provided are for illustration purposes only and have been simplified for clarity.
This handicap system ensures that no matter the jumping ability, each competitor has a fair chance to qualify for the grand prize!
Specialty Event Reminder!
Important: Scores from the Jump for a Million qualifiers DO NOT count toward titles or required splashes for your regular season. These scores are only for the Jump for a Million qualifiers and finals competition.
