Better design. Safer for dogs. Built for consistency.
We’re excited to announce the release of the official NADD Air Retrieve/HydroDash toy—developed specifically for our sport by North America Diving Dogs. Featuring a proprietary uniform release system and a softer, dog-safe design, this new toy represents a major step forward in fairness and safety for both Air Retrieve and HydroDash competitions.
What Makes This Toy Different?
After extensive testing and feedback from competitors, facilities, and judges, we designed a toy that delivers consistent performance and safe engagement across all dogs, regardless of size or jumping style.
Key highlights:
- Proprietary Uniform Release System
Detaches at a consistent pressure level for all dogs—creating a level playing field across the board. - Softer Than the Nerf Bumper
Constructed from a more forgiving material that’s gentle on dogs’ mouths, but tough enough for repeated use. - Direct Safety Release
Straps connect directly to the toy and are designed to detach cleanly, reducing tension during grabs. - Air Retrieve/HydroDash Ready
Officially approved for both NADD disciplines—one toy, two sports. - Looks Just Like the Nerf Toy
The design closely mimics the Nerf-style toy, helping dogs transition smoothly and naturally with no confusion.
Rollout Plan
Rollout will begin with the lap-size version, which has been tested thoroughly for both safety and consistency. While we finalize the open-size model, all dogs will temporarily use the Lap-size bumper during this transition phase.
Facility Flexibility Through 2025
Due to the timing of this rollout and the busy late-season schedule, NADD facilities will be allowed to choose between the Nerf toy and the new NADD toy through the end of the 2025 season.
- The 2026 season officially begins September 8th, 2025.
- While dogs have shown no issues transitioning to the new bumper, we recognize that this release is too close to Regionals and Nationals to make a mandatory change this season. Therefore, Regionals and Nationals will continue to use the Nerf toy for 2025.
Train with what’s next. Compete with confidence.
