Facility Deep Dive: Central Wyoming Diving Dogs
“Central Wyoming Diving Dogs is more than just a pool and a dock – it’s a community,” said facility owner Curtis Day. “We love welcoming new teams into the sport, whether they’re competitive or just want to have fun. Our goal is to always make it a positive, encouraging place where people and their dogs can build confidence and strengthen their bond.”
Curtis and Danee Day of Casper, Wyoming, first got involved in dock diving because of their deep involvement in dog training and canine sports. Curtis was already training working dogs, search-and-rescue dogs and companion dogs when the sport caught his attention as a fun, challenging outlet for dogs’ energy.
“It combines athleticism, drive and handler connection, which are all things we value,” Curtis said. “What attracted us most was how much dogs love the water and the sport’s simplicity. Any dog, from pet to working partner, can shine on the dock.”
Seeing the need for a local facility to provide training support and host competitions, the Days built Central Wyoming Diving Dogs to give local athletes a place to participate in dock diving without needing to travel long distances. It was a natural extension of their mission to help people build stronger relationships with their dogs.
“Balancing all the moving pieces to ensure everyone has a top-notch experience can be challenging, but we greatly enjoy seeing the smiles on handlers’ faces when their dogs succeed, whether that’s a brand-new pup making its first jump or an experienced dog setting a new personal best,” Curtis said. “Dock diving has such an infectious energy; the community is so welcoming, and the sport is pure fun for dogs and people alike!”
