Mobile Dock Spotlight: Meet Mountain West Operators Jody and Tracey Hudson
For the last two to three years, Jody and Tracey Hudson joked with Steve and Kristin Powell about running a mobile dock after Jody retired in May 2023. When NADD needed mobile dock operators for the newly created Mountain West Region, that idea came to fruition, and the Hudsons readily accepted their new roles in the diving community.
Jody and Tracey own a working ranch near Grand Junction, Colorado, and started dock diving eight years ago. They were first introduced to the sport on ESPN in the early 2000s, but with Jody’s career as a first responder and three kids in their own sports, FFA and 4-H groups, they had no time to get involved. In 2016, they finally attended their first event in Denver, Colorado; since then, they have had six diving Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, including the 2023 Veteran AR National Champion.
“There is a huge difference between being a competitor/judge/administration assistant and being an independent operator, solving issues on the fly,” Tracey said. “We are working hard to learn the ropes, with the greatest goal of ensuring our competitors always have an amazing and positive experience!”
Jody and Tracey also participate in scentwork, Fast CAT and Barn Hunt with their dogs. Outside of dog sports, they enjoy golf, hunting, bowling, gardening, axe throwing and traveling.
