A dog's height is measured at the withers (top of the shoulder) while the dog is standing in its natural stance. Dogs under 16" are considered lap dogs and will compete in the Lap class. To ensure fairness, all lap dogs must be measured by an NADD official at the start of their first event. Scores will not be official until the dog's height has been verified.
Dogs that will reach 16" or greater at maturity do not compete in the Lap class; they will start in the Open class, regardless of height. If your dog is currently under 16" but will be 16" or greater when fully grown, you may enter 16" or higher as the height value. If your dog's height is borderline and you're not sure how tall it will be, enter the closest value and an NADD official will be able to make the determination for you at your first event.
